Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina
Charleston, SC
The National Episcopal Church invited us to join them in walking alongside the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina as they re-emerge after a deeply painful schism that had divided their churches and strained their resources. Now reconstituting themselves as a “brand-new historic diocese,” the bishop and leadership team are discerning the path toward healing, reconciliation, and a vibrant life together in community. They envision a capital campaign as part of the way forward.
A capital campaign that encompasses an entire diocese must be built upon a foundation of trust and relationship. The work of the feasibility study in this case was not only to assess the appetite and capacity for giving, but to foster a shared sense of mission, purpose, and connection to bring everyone together around shared commitments. Rather than gate-keeping or questioning one project over another, the goal is to view all projects as serving the greater good.
The feasibility study allowed the diocese to deepen its relationships while identifying a reasonable financial goal for the campaign and a set of projects that inspire the widest potential participation.
