St. Andrew’s
Episcopal Church
Context
St. Andrew’s has seven buildings and beautiful grounds that were made for a particular time and space. Some are used more than others, all require maintenance, and all represent significant opportunity to live into the call God has placed on our hearts.
Your leadership is considering a few options with our buildings and grounds, and we are coming to you to understand how you envision God calling us forward. We are presenting these items as three different options in order to gauge the parish’s sense of priority for our property as we use our assets to serve God’s mission.
Examples are included for each option to give a concrete sense of what it might include – all projects are subject to change (and addition and subtraction!) as our parish discernment process moves forward.
Please take time to prayerfully read about our options, and then provide feedback through the survey. Your thoughts matter to the leadership and we look forward to hearing from you. All responses are confidential and will be compiled by our consultants at Vandersall Collective and then presented to the Vestry. Your leadership will then report back to the congregation.
Option 1: Fix immediately needed items over the next 5 years to maintain our buildings, and along with light cosmetic improvements. Items on this list might include: installation of new HVAC system in the Parish House and Rectory as well as improved security cameras and locks, creating a ramp into St. Andrew’s House, resetting brick pavers in the cemetery and leveling paths around the church, repairing stained glass windows and organ, replacing end-of-life AV equipment, painting the exterior of our buildings, and/or cosmetic improvements to bathrooms and kitchen in the Parish House.
Option 2: Strategically repair and upgrade our campus beyond immediate needs for long-term sustainability, cost savings, and enhanced use for our community life. Examples include items in option one plus converting our buildings from oil heat to maximize energy efficiency, hardiplank buildings to prevent continuous repainting and wood repair, comprehensive changes to our buildings for full accessibility and enhanced security, renovating the floors, office, and meeting spaces in St. Andrew’s House to create intimate and accessible space for gathering, and a completely new kitchen for the Parish House.
Option 3: Needed repairs from option one, plus significantly reconfiguring our sanctuary and Parish House, or our property on the other side of West Afton Avenue, to meet the needs of the church and local community. Projects might include: Develop our vacant property to create shared spaces for connection and community that may also generate income for the church’s mission, create more space for worship and community life by expanding the sanctuary and/or Parish House, and/or create or convert additional rental units to generate income used for church mission.
