Feasibility Survey
The Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina
Dear Friend,
As Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, I am writing to request a few minutes of your valuable time.
We are currently conducting a formal Feasibility Study to ascertain the willingness of our community to engage a capital campaign. The purpose of such a campaign would be to support, strengthen, and expand ministries in local communities across this beloved diocese. The views and comments of those committed to our diocese about our proposed projects for $18,700,000 are important and will be considered as we discern the best way forward. We are continuing the work of repair and reconciliation and are relying on you to help determine whether a campaign to support a strong future in our life together will be a success.
After reading our case statement materials, please complete this survey. All replies are confidential.
If you cannot find your Unique ID, please email Canon Ryan Currie.
It is important that your response is returned by October 10. We are beginning a new season of ministry. Our call is to follow the Holy Spirit’s prompting as we build a “brand new historic diocese.” My prayer is that every church and ministry of this diocese will have the resources you need to fulfill the call of God in this time. Thank you for participating in this important study, and thank you for all you do among us!
In hope,
The Right Reverend Ruth Woodliff-Stanley
Bishop, The Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina
In 2024 the bishop and leadership completed the process of settling all remaining issues from a decade long schism. Our diocese is now poised for a new season. While we recovered many assets, we need to consider how to best tend each part of our diocese. With a strategic plan in place and a clear case established, we must now discern our appetite and capacity for ensuring that we have a strong Episcopal presence and witness across this diocese for many years to come.
While some churches can tend to their own capital needs, others cannot. The best way to help them is to work together as one body. In addition, the ministries we share, such as St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center, need our collective support to realize their mission for the next generation. While we have identified potential projects for consideration, there is room for expansion as needs emerge.
As you read the case and respond through our survey, please know that:
All answers will be kept confidential.
At no time will you be asked for a binding pledge.Your answers to this survey will directly impact the leadership’s decisions.
A report will be made to the leadership with results of this survey and recommendations by the 2025 Diocesan Convention.
