Flight Path Dance Project
Flight Path Dance Project: who are they?
Flight Path is a tuition-free repertory training program for NYC dancers age 14-20. Beyond the studio, they engage in professional development workshops and experiences (business skills, injury prevention and management, financial literacy, meditation and wellness, professional interfacing, and performance outings), as well as an arts literacy initiative, providing a new book each month (artist biographies, science and anatomy texts, poetry, critical nonfiction, and more), all in an effort to prepare their dancers for the whole of a career in the performing arts.
How to go from start-up to long haul?
This isn’t just the question for Flight Path as an organization, it’s the question that they help the young dancers they serve answer in their own careers. Unlike most professionals, dancers have a very short window to turn their talent into a sustainable lifetime endeavor. They have to literally hit the ground running with people skills and practical knowledge to move past a successful season or two. We worked with Flight Path to consider how to bring all of the tools they give their students into their own approach. Their challenge: turning the brilliant vision of a seasoned professional into a full scale, financially stable enterprise.
This translates to:
Board development
Expanding the pool of donors and cultivating relationships
Migrating from constant needs-based fundraising to a steady giving strategy
Staff and leadership training
